Let’s introduce!

My name is Jitske Overeem and together with my husband Perry Overeem and Frank Rijkaard, I opened restaurant Dengh in Leidsche Rijn in 2015. We had lived here for some time, but were missing an atmospheric catering establishment in the neighbourhood. Every day, Perry and I walked past a dilapidated manor house, a remnant of Den Engh Castle. Together we decided to embark on the hospitality adventure! After a thorough renovation, restaurant Dengh was opened, with the Koetshuis becoming a popular wedding and event venue. I now focus entirely on the interior design of Dengh, with a focus on creating a cosy place for families, friends, party guests and wedding couples.

What is it that you do exactly?

I started out on the floor and in the office, but now I only deal with Dengh’s interior and all related matters of Utrechtse Horeca Groep. Utrechtse Horeca Groep is a hospitality holding company founded by Perry. This includes the locations HAL22, Kortjak, Bar Basta, Club Claar and bar brasserie De Blend.

What brought you to TICA?

I have been coming to TICA Aalsmeer for five 5 years. It is a nice place to see all kinds of styles and buy directly. Depending on which case needs to be styled, I choose the items. This often involves (artificial) plants, candelabras, cushions and decoration for in the cupboards. I always go to TICA with a specific purchase order, otherwise I buy way too much!

What kind of hospitality concept is Dengh?

In March 2024, we updated our dining concept. During the day, you can still enjoy lunch with a variety of sandwiches and salads. In the evening, we serve smaller, shared dishes so you can taste several flavours. We used to offer classic starters and main courses, but we noticed that our guests and our team were ready for something new. Dengh’s strength is the combination of good food, hospitable service, an enthusiastic team and atmospheric surroundings – this makes guests love coming back to us.

What makes Dengh’s styling so special?

We renovated the bar and interior in spring 2024. We created a cosy, homely atmosphere with warm colours and the bar as the central focal point. The bar is done in an ‘old-fashioned’ woodwork, to honour the old style of the farmhouse. By giving the bar a distinct colour and combining it with steel and modern lighting, it really is an eye-catcher and anything but old-fashioned. We continued this combination in the fabrics and shapes of the bar stools and chairs.

Which hospitality trends do you keep an eye on?

We look at what other restaurants in the area are doing, but also keep an eye on trend platforms such as Food Inspiration and Entree Magazine. Pinterest and Instagram are also important sources of inspiration for both interiors and dishes. Where possible, we respond to the seasons by using seasonal products in our dishes.

How do you ensure sufficient brand awareness? 

Dengh is almost 10 years old, but there are still plenty of people who don’t know us. That is why we are active on social media, advertising on Instagram and collaborating with various Instagram accounts such as Waar Utrecht Eet. We also collaborate with venue platforms to promote our location as a wedding or event venue.

What are the future plans?

The opening of a beach tent at Haarrijnseplas, a well-known city beach in Utrecht, a 5-minute drive from Dengh. We are really looking forward to that! Together with a team of professionals, I am working hard to create something beautiful there. The starting point is sustainability, so with everything we think about where it comes from, how it is made and how it can be reused. And then, of course, it has to look beautiful and hopefully unique. Another fantastic new challenge.

Fast, lots and all kinds of different styles and brands together that you can take away immediately. This means no long delivery times, which is ideal when you have a busy schedule. Plus, lunch is a must; they always have way too many delicious things you can’t resist!
