Introduction round-up! Who are you and how did Roest Concepstore come about?

We are Rosanna (32) and Esther (35) and together we run Roest Conceptstore in the always cosy centre of Katwijk aan Zee. Roest Conceptstore was born from a shared love of creating beautiful things. We both love to surround ourselves with beautiful products and to inspire others with them. Roest Conceptstore started out as a pop-up store, but has since become a must for us and our customers.

What kind of shop concept is Roest Conceptstore? And how do you stand out?

Roest is a Concept store for both women and kids. With us, you can score the nicest gifts for yourself, your children or for the home. From tableware to clothing; we have it all. What sets us apart from other concept stores is that we try to present all our products together in one atmosphere. Clothing and accessories are combined, so there is always something to see or discover. We always try to think beyond clothes for the kids’ range as well. So we have the cutest gifts, toys, books but also room furnishings.

You also have a webshop, does a different type of customer shop there?

Generally, our online customers are the same types of customers as in-store, but from a distance. Social media plays a huge role in this for us.

How do you get inspired and how do we see that reflected in the Roest concept?

We are types who are always discovering new labels or products and are open to new insights and experiences, which you see reflected in our concept. To stay inspired, we regularly visit trade fairs or other cities and browse around on social media and Pinterest.

How do you ensure sufficient brand awareness?

Besides being very active on social media, local brand awareness is also very important to us. We regularly organise events, such as a ladies’ night with a fashion show or a beach party in honour of our fifth anniversary. Furthermore, we have someone who maintains ads on Google for us.

How did you end up at TICA?

We have been shopping at TICA Aalsmeer since the opening of our store! Purchasing at TICA is ideal for styling our range or for inspiration for the new season. Items we often score are candlesticks, vases and other decorations.

What do we look for when selecting the retail range for Roest Conceptstore?

Items should fit our style and combine well with the rest of the assortment. At TICA, we always find a nice addition for our range. We like being able to try out something new once in a while, without being tied to minimum orders. Think of a lamp or a dining chair, for example. Of course, we also pay attention to the price-quality ratio.

Sure! At Roest Conceptstore, we love working with small or young entrepreneurs who bring something new to the market. For example, we have very beautiful handmade scented candles by Smell & Spice or artisanal chocolates by F&R Pastry. We try to have a certain line in our assortment in style and colour palette, which certainly fits the Colourful Cultures theme.

At TICA Aalsmeer, we recently launched a ‘kid’s square’, do you buy in it for your shop?

Last time, we had fun at the kids’ square. We can’t wait for the kids’ range at TICA to expand so that we can present even more beautiful products in our children’s section.

What is ‘Typical TICA’ for you?

TICA is our lifesaver that we can always fall back on. It’s nice to have a purchasing place where the supply is large and you can always go to buy additional items if collections go faster than expected. We also find TICA the perfect place to try out new items in a different category than we normally sell. And above all, we are big fans of the delicious apple turnovers from the TICAfé, haha!

Do you have any tips for starting webshop entrepreneurs?

We personally believe in a combination between an offline and online business. For us, the base is the shop, because you get to know the customer best face-to-face and can serve them optimally. We believe enormously in the value of a favour factor and real connection with our customer. But of course, in this day and age, a webshop should not and cannot be missing.
