Chako Zanzibar
From Old Wine Bottles to Stylish Design Pieces
Chako Zanzibar gives old wine bottles a new life as beautiful handcrafted products. What was once discarded as waste on the island of Zanzibar is transformed by Chako into stylish drinking glasses, storage jars, and vases. By combining these with traditional wood carving – inspired by the iconic wooden doors of Stone Town – unique eye-catching pieces are created for the kitchen, bathroom, or living room.
Sustainable and Social
Chako does more than just recycle; this FairTrade brand provides work for local artisans, 65% of whom are women. They learn a trade and earn an income that enables them to support their families. This is crucial, as 80% of Zanzibar’s waste comes from the tourism industry – a flow that the island can hardly manage. Chako helps not only by cleaning up and repurposing waste but also by creating jobs for unemployed youth and women.
A circular concept with a positive impact and a touch of tropical charm.
