Corios; the wholesaler for the Christmas season

In 2003, Ton and Maartje started two companies: Natural Collections and Banner & Co. Over the years, the product range changed and in 2012 they decided to continue under one name: Corios. The company is known for its seasonal collections, LED candles and green decorations. They also fully unpack during Christmas every year. The range shines with garlands, various branches, Christmas figures and pendants, which perfectly fit the TICA theme Timeless Traditions. TICA’s editors spoke to the duo.

How did the cooperation with TICA come about?

We have been exhibitors at TICA Venlo since the beginning. This was still in the old building, which was Trends & Trade at the time. Here we started with 60 metres, but over the years we grew to 260 metres. Over three years ago, we also started with a 60-metre stand at TICA Aalsmeer. But this too soon became too small. The cooperation with TICA has always been good. We think along with each other, spar regularly and often try out something new. In our opinion, that really is the key to joint success!

What does your target group look like?

In the beginning, many florists bought from us because of our basic collection of green decorations and metal frames. Since then, our target group has expanded considerably and catering entrepreneurs, gift shops, workshoppers and (interior) stylists also buy from us.

What does Corios’ range consist of?

We have a wide collection but our focus is mainly on the seasons, keeping in mind the holidays in the Netherlands and Germany. We start the year with Valentine and Easter items. This is followed by the spring, summer and autumn collections and from the end of June we start with Christmas. As a result, our stand at TICA changes regularly and TICA members find something new every visit.

How do you always ensure a great Christmas and festive range at TICA?

We always say that we are ‘into Christmas’ for 10 months of the year. When the season ends, we have already started shopping for the following year. We get inspired at (international) trade fairs and we visit foreign industry-related shops. In addition, we develop items ourselves and have them produced by our regular suppliers. Our German customers buy Christmas items early on, so at TICA Venlo we build up in June. In Aalsmeer this year, we tentatively started at the beginning of August. With success. Here, too, there was a need for festive articles by then.

What can we expect from Corios this festive season?

We love a traditional Christmas; lots of glitz and glamour and the colours red, green and gold always predominate. So this fits perfectly with the TICA theme Timeless Traditions. Large Christmas trees and reindeer in shades of red and green, garlands and branches, pendants and DIY materials; we have it all. Perfect items for a retail range, in a shop window or restaurant.

Do you have any tips for retailers?

You can always try out products at TICA; that is the strength of purchasing from TICA. So try something completely different and see how your customers react to it. If it catches on, it can be replenished in no time. We regularly try new things ourselves. This is how our product range has grown in recent years.

What milestone are you most proud of?

The 20th anniversary of our company last year was a major milestone for us. These years have really flown by. We are especially proud of our team (Kokkie, Martina, Henk, Marlies, Anja, Manu, Mandy and Romy), without which this would not have been possible.
