Barbara Sikking is the owner of BSIK, a wholesale business with an assortment that brings joy. When she took the leap in 2011, she didn’t know her ‘entrepreneurial hobby’ would grow into a thriving business. With her eclectic seasonal items, timeless dinnerware, and colorful plant pots, Barbara sets BSIK apart from the crowd. Inspired by spring and in line with the Eclectic Sunset TICA theme, Barbara presents a renewed collection this spring. TICA’s editorial team spoke with the passionate, positive entrepreneur about this. Brands you’ll find at the BSIK stand include Mica, Wunderle, and House of Seasons.
“For me, typical TICA is inspiration mixed with personal stories.
It was clear to me early on that working for a boss wasn’t for me. I was always making plans about how I could start my own business. Having a wholesale business in home accessories wasn’t something I aspired to, but it came my way by chance. And then I thought, why not? My father had his own shop, so I knew I could turn to him with all my questions. I went for it, and thanks to the support of my parents and later my partner, BSIK grew from something I did as a hobby into a serious enterprise.
Everything for the dining table such as dinnerware, cutlery, and table linens, but also dining chairs, side tables, plant pots, and hangers. I work with the brand Mica Decorations. They have a very diverse collection with approximately 20,000 items, of which over 3,000 items carry the ‘Because We Care’ label and are thus sustainably produced. Mica Decorations always works with versatile themes, and I select my own assortment from these. Additionally, at TICA Venlo, I also offer the assortment from Wunderle. This is a German brand that works with people with disabilities and offers typical German products such as the ‘Wundertüte’.

Since 2011, I can be found weekly as an exhibitor at TICA Aalsmeer or TICA Venlo. My mother has been helping me for years. Together we ensure that the stands always look inviting and colorful; they are a visual stimulation for TICA members who pass by. I prefer visual overstimulation to understimulation. Additionally, I ensure new items in the stands almost weekly. Life moves fast; people are constantly looking for new items. I translate this pace in my stands into a continuously changing assortment combined with some permanent basic items.
Great! Years ago, there wasn’t much attention to styling at TICA. Things have really changed; now it’s absolutely essential! The decoration of the stand and the presentation of products really drive more traffic and sales. I’m also happy that TICA launches an inspiring and current theme every two months – like now with Eclectic Sunset – and collaborates with exhibitors on this.
A color explosion with lots of green, orange, and pink! The new ‘Exotic’ dinnerware line with various plates and bowls featuring fruit and vegetable prints is truly fantastic for hospitality entrepreneurs. The colorful tulip vases look perfect on a shop counter, and the summery Aston trays completely brighten up a garden table.
A typical BSIK customer is daring and loves color. At several of the Eclectic Sunset TICA inspiration points, you’ll find parasols with various colorful prints; completely ‘on trend’. With these, you can make your shop window truly inviting.
Forget playing it safe! Stand out and show courage with a bold, colorful window display!
