My full name is Roos Ait Moh Nait Lhaj – Nijs. A beautiful and long surname that I owe to my husband. Over 42 years ago, I married Hamid and we are still very happy together. Together we have two sons, Tarik and Samir, and we can proudly call ourselves grandparents. I adore them! It’s a joy to have grandchildren like Jazz (12), Jelaara (11), and Lola Rose (9).
I’ve been working as a receptionist at TICA in Venlo for five years now. Along with my reception colleagues, I’m the first point of contact for TICA members who have been purchasing from us for years, as well as for those visiting the location for the first time. I talk to so many people in a day; it’s really enjoyable.
Years ago, I saw a job opening at TICA on Indeed. I applied. I was actually surprised to receive an invitation for an interview. After all, I was 61 years old at the time. That apparently doesn’t matter at TICA because I was hired!

I find that really difficult to say about myself! Regarding my work at TICA, I think I’m proud of the fact that I always remain friendly towards our TICA members. This is in my nature, so is that something to be proud of?
This coming May I will reach retirement age, but I would very much like to continue working. I really enjoy it here and like to stay active. However, I do occasionally enjoy doing ‘nothing.’ Then I watch a feel-good movie on Netflix.
Very good. We care a lot for each other and see each other outside of work too. For example, I once attended a Motown evening (with Motown music) at the Maaspoort in Venlo with Doortje. My son was DJing there and we decided to go to his performance together. I also went with Doortje to see her son’s breakdance performance. It’s wonderful to see each other’s children ‘shine’.
I help at my brother and his son’s business. It’s a fashion wholesale business, which I also really enjoy doing. Furthermore, I try to walk a lot. At TICA, I always take a walk during my lunch break. Then I only have 10 minutes left to eat lunch, but I find it important to get enough exercise. When I’m off, I walk straight from my house to the Venlose Heide. Besides that, I’m truly a family person!
When we’re all sitting at the table together as a family. I thoroughly enjoy that! My eldest son works at a music venue in Venlo, and my other son is a DJ/producer traveling the world (Moksi). When possible, we gladly look after our grandchildren. My husband is retired and often takes care of them when I’m at work. Sometimes they stay overnight; very cozy. Besides my (grand)children, I also have one lovely daughter-in-law. In short, I have a wonderful family!
The Tombola! During this ‘TICA-madness,’ every colleague has a chance to win multiple items (that can no longer be sold) from the cash carry. Additionally, I really appreciate when we unexpectedly receive a gift at home or receive a bonus.
We obviously have so many different exhibitors at TICA, but when I think about it now, I find the items from MrsBLOOM, Dutch Style, Light Living, Colmore, and Kersten the most beautiful.
